Class 156 crossing Dandry Mire Viaduct
DANDRY MIRE VIADUCT - 12th October 2001
Moorcock Viaduct or Dandry Mire Viaduct as it is also known, should never have been, instead there should have been an embankment here but each time earth was tipped into the bog it just sank and was unable to provide a stable foundation. After much 19th century head-scratching it was decided to drain the bog in order to lay foundations for a viaduct - and here it is - rather more pleasing to the eye than an embankment I would suggest - for the photographer anyway!
